This wonderful day made to celebrate all the fathers around the world was created in 1910 in The US by Sonora Smart Dodd. In North America and some parts of Europe, the celebration takes place on the third Sunday of the month of June. Other countries celebrate father's Day on the third Sunday of June including Japan, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Malaysia, Pakistan, Ukraine, South Africa, The Philippines, and more!

Father's day is celebrated all around the world even if the exact date may vary.
Many religions still commemorates father's day but choose a meaningful day of their own culture/religion.

For example, the Sikhs, who celebrates Father's Day on December 29th, which falls on the birthday of Goru Gobind Singh who was the last of the 10 human Sikhs Guru (spiritual master of Sikhism).

Germany also celebrates Father's Day a little differently. It is known as "Vatertag" meaning Father's Day but is also commonly called Gentlemen's Day. It takes place on Ascending Day, which is always the 40th Thursday after Easter and is recognized as a Federal holiday. The tradition of "Vatertag" is to go hiking with your group of gentlemen and bring along small wagons that carry beer and/or wine. The day is well known for its many accident and injuries since a lot of men take advantage of the celebration to get drunk during the hike. It is mostly popular in the eastern parts of Germany.

Father's Day in Thailand takes place on December 5th, the birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It is a National holiday. The tradition is to give your Father a canna flower as well as wear yellow to honor the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Australia first started celebrating Father's day in the 1910's following the US celebration on the third Sunday of June. It was not well received as the population did not like the western celebration and did not want to celebrate Fathers as they were already seen as the authority figure in most households. It wasn't until Janet Heyden, an important advocator of mother's day, started popularizing the movement of Father's Day in Australia that the official Father's Day was established. In 1957, a council for Father's Day was formed and the celebration was made to take place on the First Sunday of September, which corresponds to the first Day of spring in Australia. Since then, Australia has held a Father of the Year award every year!
